FAQ - The Maximalist
What are the components of “The Maximalist” portrait?
There are three main components: the pet portrait, the oval frame with name banner, and the backdrop. Each component can be customized!
Component 1 - The Pet Portrait
Can you explain the 3 style versions available for the pet portrait component of the Maximalist Print?
Sure! Also check out the product’s photos for a comparison of all 3 versions in one image.
The first, a simple sketch in black and white, is your simplest option. Includes a simple sketch of your pets with limited shading (e.g. major spots on your pet, eyes). If your pet is all brown or black, for example, and you choose this option, you’ll receive a sketch outlining your pet (versus being filled in). This is a great option if your pet is mostly white, too, and requires minimal shading anyways. If you choose this option but want to also highlight your pet’s beautiful blue eyes (or whichever color), just include that note in “Additional Requests” in the add to cart form!
The second, a full sketch in black and white, is the next level up. Includes full shading and textures for your pets.
The third, a full sketch in color, has shading, textures, and colors. The level of effort between #2 and #3 is actually the same on my end, so there is no price difference!
Component 2 - The Oval Frame & Name Banner
What customizations are available for the frame or name banner?
This frame will center on your pets. If you want the fill within this frame to be a color other than white, you can specify this in “Additional Requests” when you click “Customize & Add To Cart”.
You can choose from various fonts to fill the name banner. Take a look at product photos or the following link (opens in a new tab) to review font options while making your selection. The default will be to include your pet’s name in the banner, but if you’d like custom text, you can specify in “Additional Requests”. You can also request no name banner.
Component 3 - Backdrops
What’s the easiest way to review backdrops?
There are product photos with all existing backdrops, or take a look at the following link (opens in a new tab). Once you click on the “Customize & Add To Cart” form, you won’t be able to return to the product page without losing your customization inputs due to system limitations! I recommend opening a second tab with the product up to refer back to, or using the following link (opens in a new tab) to review the backdrops as well as font choices, so you can refer to it as you make your selections.
I’ve found a backdrop I love. How do I tell you which one I’d like?
Hooray! When you click “Customize & Add To Cart”, a form will pop up for you to fill in various customization options, including a drop down list of the existing backdrops.
I love the existing backdrop, but would like a different background color. How can I specify this?
Background colors have been selected to go with these drawings. If you like a backdrop design but want a different background color, pick the backdrop design option, but in “Additional Requests” let me know which background color you’d like. You can make the background color white too — so squirrels, for example, would retain their color but the background would be white. There is no additional charge for a different background color.
Can you just choose a backdrop for me?
Definitely. Just select “Rue Noelle’s choice” as your backdrop and make sure to include a few details about your pet and/or you (or whoever you are gifting this to!) when you are adding to cart under “Your Pet’s Info” or “Additional Requests”. I’ll use this to pick a backdrop and color that you’ll hopefully love.
What if I have an idea for a totally new backdrop? What is the process?
I love it, let’s get creative. If you would like a fully customized backdrop, make that selection on this product page, choosing “Custom Backdrop” under “Backdrop Option”. Let’s say, for example, your pet’s name is “Cheese” - and you want a backdrop full of fine cheeses. I can do that! If your pet absolutely loves ice cream, I can make an ice cream backdrop. The world is your oyster! Since I will be hand drawing the new background, there is an additional fee automatically applied.
Additional FAQ
Submitting your pet photos - what are the best photos to send?
Each and every pet is unique, and each has unique proportions. Try to send a capture that captures the most amount of their body visible so that I can get proportions right! If you’d like just a headshot portrait, send in a picture that has them looking the way you’d like them to in the portrait (e.g. head on, to the side, etc.). For full body, again any photos that capture the majority of their body are great! If you’re still looking for guidance, my best recommendation is to send me a photo of your pet in their most natural position (maybe sitting and looking at you for a dog or cat, a beautiful headshot of your pig, your chicken in full sprint). Best photo options for the DUO pet portrait?
Send a few photos of your pets together! That way I can best capture their proportions in relation to each other.
What types of pets do you do?
All pets are welcome! I have had dogs my whole life so they were my obvious first subjects. Send in your pet chicken, pig, horse, cat, etc : )
Do DUO portraits need to be the same animal?
Nope! If you have a rabbit and a dog, and you want them together, bring it on. If you have photos of them together, great, otherwise try to give me your best description of their size in relation to each other.
I have multiple pets that I’d like to include in the same portrait. Can you do this?
